How are Admissions decisions made?
Decisions are made based upon the quality of your academic program,
your grade point average, rank in class and SAT or ACT scores. Your
previous academic record must include the prerequisites necessary
for your program of study at Farmingdale.

Are SAT or ACT scores required?
SAT or ACT scores are required for all applicants who graduated
from high school after 1998. This requirement is waived for transfer
students who have completed a minimum of 24 credits with a GPA of
at least 2.0.

What kind of SAT scores do I need to
be accepted?
Farmingdale State is a selective school, and we are looking for
students who are academically motivated, and have succeeded in high
school. The average incoming freshman has about an 80% grade point
average and a combined 1000 SAT score. The SAT range is generally
from 920-1100. The average ACT score is 22. However, numbers are
not the only criteria we consider. The Admissions Counselors at
Farmingdale also take into consideration extracurricular activities,
awards, community service and recommendations. The more we know
about you the better decision we can make

Is it harder for out-of-state students
to gain admission?
The admission criteria are the same for students whether they live
in New York or elsewhere. It is natural for a state university to
attract many students from within its borders, but we welcome and
encourage out-of-state and international students to apply.

Do you accept AP or other college level
courses for college credit?
If you have completed Advanced Placement courses and examinations
or other college level courses, you may be able to receive college
credit for them. Credit is usually given for an AP score of 3 or
better, or a college grade of C or better. For you to receive credit,
Farmingdale must receive the official AP score report or an official
transcript from the other college.

Is there a deadline for applications?
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis up to the beginning
of the semester and are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
For the Nursing and Dental Hygiene programs, applications that
only admit in the fall semester, there is a first priority filing
date of December 15.
